Biomass is one of the oldest sources of renewable energy. However renewable, it does pose danger to ecosystems if harvested irresponsibly. Biomass works by releasing the carbon that is trapped inside and using it to create ethanol. Biomass is renewable because its fuel is generated quite quickly.

Pros of Biomass

·         Biomass energy is inexhaustible. It produces biogas and biofuels. These forms of energy are used to heat and run electricity in homes.

·         Biomass energy is low on cost and is made locally.

·         Biomass energy is renewable unlike other forms of energy.

·         Biomass does not rely on fossil fuels which is good for the environment.

·         Biomass converts waste into fuel; this is great because it cuts down on the waste and trash in dumps and landfills.

Cons of Biomass

·         Large areas of land are needed to produce enough electricity to make biomass efficient.

·         Some waste such as corn is not available all year round; this cuts down on crop wastes.

·         Too much biomass can lead to deforestation and other environmental problems.
